I like machining things and I need to get to FAR asap

Image
Apr 12 2025  I was not good about taking photos this week but I got some stuff done. I went and got supplies to make the moving portion of the crane setup. I really need to get to your office and see the different things as far as gears and such. My expectations are low. I just want it to move. I got rod that is a great deal thicker to avoid the dropping issue that I'm currently having. I also followed your idea of making the lines straighter and used the water jet to cut out the two vertical pieces.  After creating those I am sliding the two rods through to form that. I also have this plan for the farthest vertical pieces.    The red is where I imagine the gears being. Sketches: Should I make the holes in the farthest vertical pieces the same size as my rods? How does that work with the gears? Are the circles in the center of the gears a regulated kinda size? I really need to get to FAR asap.

Thinking About Crane, Needing More Time

The semester is quickly drawing to a close and I feel my time running out. My goal is to make the crane move, just movement, before the end of the semester. It's overwhelming to learn so many new things, but good to stretch myself. I took a few days break, so I'm feeling more inspired to devote myself to making some things work.  Things I'm thinking about buying:  Bearings:  https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-4-inchx5-8-inchx0-196-inch-Shielded-Bearings/dp/B0B5XMSXW2/ref=asc_df_B0B5XMSXW2?mcid=a4e59937c697363d851fc984a792bba1&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693071814385&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4692437305930340586&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011574&hvtargid=pla-1942066188681&th=1 gear to make chain pulley:  https://www.amazon.com/Chain-Sprocket-MY1020-Electric-Scooter/dp/B0D8XX7F21/ref=sr_1_14_sspa?crid=3MUEGF1LF9PF0&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.oF-mLiv-4tb1oBVjImxJ2wJNxVKlxeaSAhAg...
