locking in with the electronics

March 4 2025

As I suspected, I attempted to work connecting the board myself only to become immediately stumped. I tried to find the right board to select and connect to, but I couldn't find the exact model and wasn't sure what to sub it with. I tried an Adafruit with the same letters/numbers after it. Come to think of it, maybe I'll just try it with the arduino uno as the input?

I also need to ask you about installing the extra "developer tools". You had told me to put it off for as long as I could, but it has started to show "lack of developer tools" as an issue when I go to proof the code.

The good news is, the boards light turns on and it is certainly connecting. I just need to find the right way to connect the appropriate tools. This is difficult.

I tried to connect it as an arduino uno just in case it would talk to the computer like that, but it's not able to send the code, so my guess is that that's an issue. It is finally clearing my code though, so that's step up. I have a speaker plugged in. I am going to get your help during class.

March 7 2025

After class meetings I was able to get the sonatino board set up and playing a sound. I didn't know about the online documentation- so now I know to start there when I get new equipment. I really like the board and I am excited to see what else I can do with it

I got the stuff to build the "tables" around the load cell. I ran into not being able to find the right screws in the sculpture lab. I'm at my parents house this week so I'm going to see if my dad has any screws that would work in his garage workshop. I should be able to get it out together here.

On Thursday I soldered everything together.  I soldered the plug in rows onto the sonatino, the load cell to the amplifier, and the wires onto the other side of the amplifier. I now have it set up to plug into the sonatino according to the online pin documentation that we found.

Next up: I am going to build the tables for the load cell and test the load cell.

Does the load cell have its own library? I think it does, and I'll need to try to find that.

Once I get that working, I plan to combine those two codes so that the load cell can detect the weight and trigger the sound. I have a microSD to get the sound onto the board without turning the audio file into a .h via some complicated code thing that I don't understand. (I tried to google it I was immediately confused.)

Then I'll plug it in and it'll hopefully work perfectly. haha.

We spoke in person about holding my critique on another day because I can have it nicely set up at CAB. You'll see it in some form on March 21st at CAB for my review, and if we could hold my class critique the following Tuesday at CAB I could just leave it nicely installed (lit ext) in the duo pods.

I see a clear path forward, I just have a few more steps to tackle. Thank you for all your help, I never would've made it this far without your guidance!

I can't remember exactly which photos I was trying to attach to my blog where they got cut out, but I'll add some here:
